Empire is a regulated utility providing electric, natural gas (through its wholly owned subsidiary The Empire District Gas Company), and water service, to approximately 218,000 customers in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. A subsidiary of the company provides fiber optic services. On January 3, 2017, Empire District joined the Liberty Utilities family. Based in Joplin, Missouri, Empire now serves as the headquarters for the Liberty Utilities Central Region, serving nearly 340,000 customers across seven states.

Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CW&EP) is a municipally-owned, locally controlled, not for profit electric utility company responsible for operating and maintaining the municipal electric, water, and communication systems of Carthage, Missouri. CW&EP has made it a priority since 1898 to provide the most reliable, efficient, and cost effective utilities to our families and friends in the Carthage community, and will continue to do so.
